"Blinking" Landing Lights

Sometime last decade SWA/WN started putting blinking landing lights on their planes. I think V Nav V Dummy confirmed that a study showed increased visibility of the aircraft.

I still see an occasional biz jet with them, but no airliners at all whatsoever any more (as best as I can tell).

I'm guessing there was an incident or two at night and the lights stuck on flash when full-on would be preferred? (Or they burned out more or etc.)

Any insider insight on this from our DSGPOTM?

At my first airline we had a CRJ msn 7018 aka "Blinky". It was kinda cool.

Pulse lights are much more visible, especially in daytime. That said, they can be rather distracting when landing at night and you forgot to switch from pulsing to steady.

To what do we owe the pleasure?

Don't know... definitely not an abundance of spare time... I think I wanted to see if anybody was still here. :P
