Re: Altitude
I had to hand fly a Seven Two at 41 as part of IOE. Finally found a cold day with an empty dash 15 plane and got the block 41-43 (pre-RVSM) to make it to 42.
You're not a Freight Dawg unless you've shot the ILS to 23L at KYIP in a transport category aircraft no longer used in passenger service. You're OG if it had a tailwheel or BMEP gauges.

What is "IOE"?I had to hand fly a Seven Two at 41 as part of IOE. Finally found a cold day with an empty dash 15 plane and got the block 41-43 (pre-RVSM) to make it to 42.

Initial Operational Experience. Whenever a pilot is checked out in a new airplane and after he is done with the sim, he must fly a prescribed number of hours with an instructor pilot to learn how said new airplane behaves in the real world. What is "IOE"?

Re: Altitude
What was you first truly operational flight (without instructor) like? I remember to this day the rush I got when I had control of a motor vehicle for the first time and can imagine that your experience is an exponentially greater rush.Initial Operational Experience. Re: Altitude
Well...I had to hand fly a Seven Two at 41 as part of IOE. Finally found a cold day with an empty dash 15 plane and got the block 41-43 (pre-RVSM) to make it to 42.
You still would require a block 41-43 to fly at 42,000.
42,000 is an unusable flight level.
RVSM Airspace is FL290-FL410, above that we still require 2000' separation.
FL430 Westbound
FL450 Eastbound
FL470 Westbound... etc etc
