Maintenance Question for a Maintenance "Guru"
Why do pilots have better "system knowledge" than the mechanics? Better training?

Re: Maintenance Question for a Maintenance "Guru"
Sorry Shady, I have NEVER met a pilot (including you) with better system knowledge than I had on any aircraft we operated. Why do pilots have better "system knowledge" than the mechanics? Better training?
In truth pilots are no longer taught how things work only what they should expect to see in the cockpit. If you want to know more, better get a set of maintenance manuals ans study on your own time.
Mechanics are starting to be taught using CBT (Computer Based Training). I went through the CBT course for the A300 and just about died of boredom. It does not go into detail about how a component works, just that it does and it's so slow. If the a valve doesn't work, you change it. The fact that the signal air line controlling the operation of the valve is broken won't be found until you replace a good valve and then look to see why. Gone are the days when you could name each valve that had to open on a 727 in order to get air from the APU to get #1, 2 or 3 engine starters to spin.

Probably not one of mine: I'll make sure to contact Airbus about this. New customer ahead!...Mechanics are starting to be taught using CBT (Computer Based Training). I went through the CBT course for the A300 and just about died of boredom...
