Grade A allows a paint finish that's unbeatable but if I'm covering my own aircraft, it's going to be done with a man made fabric like Ceconite. The man made fabric will out last grade A three or four to one.Grade A or Ceconite?
Your opinion on Antifungals?
In Alaska, it was common for grade A to last about 10 years for an aircraft parked outside. In a hangar the life span went up about 5 years.
In Arizona, a grade A covered aircraft (parked outside) has a life span of 4 to 5 years. Inside a hangar, the life span could be 10 to fifteen years.
Ceconite was good for 15 to 20 years with reasonable care for an outside parked cub add four or five more for a hangared aircraft.
Antifungals. I don't use them. This is a very dry climate. Anti-fungals are not required. If I lived where moisture is a problem, I'd use one.
The care and technique used when applying Grade A make all the difference. A good job can last two or three times longer than one covered using the minimum requirements of AC43.13.
Ceconite seems to be almost bullet proof as long as you do the minimum.
For my money, using any covering, the more silver the better.
If I were thinking of resale value, Ceconite period. A buyer will shy away from Grade A.
