Don Moore Died 06-05-09

Postby IntheShade » Sun Jun 07, 2009 6:58 pm

I just go thte Email Don has passed away.
Donald Moore, passed away on Friday, June 5th from complications of ALS (otherwise known as Lou Gherig's disease).can't believe how quickly he was taken from us. Funeral services will be held for him on Thursday, June 11th at 10am in Prescott, Arizona at the Chruch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1101 Sandretto Drive. There will be a viewing from 9-9:50am. His body will be buried on Friday, June 12th in Wildomar, California. Heritage Memory Mortuary is assisting our family at this time.
Don was a friend to everyone and one of the finest people you could meet. He did alot for people (including myself) unselfishly and asked nothing in return.

Although I did not know Don until later in life, Don was the "salt of the earth" that I grew up around at the airport when I was younger. He was quick to help, never spoke bad about anyone, only offered help and encouragement, and loved aviation.

When I say "loved aviation" I want to be clear. It wasn't the airplanes, job, airport that he loved. It was the being a part of a group of people who were all working and playing together as a group. A group that was more like a family than any other group of people I know.

Aviation is a strange thing. You get to know someone and then for years you don't see them again, but when you do you pick up where it left off like it was only yesterday. You run into people you walked off from years ago to find them in some off the beaten path kingdom of thier own.

That is where I met Don--Singapore. We only kew each other from http://www.internet.com but he made it a point to eat with me one afternoon and here is the thing. We talked-the afternoon ended to early-and it was like we had known each other from birth. We knoew the same people, loved the same type flying, had the same adventures.

Don--I miss you.

I am such an emotional wreck today I have started crying. I won't be revisiting this thread because I can't, but I think everyone should say thanks for having such a friend as Don was to all of us.

Thanks for passing the news on. Very shocked indeed by this, especially given its suddenness.

I too received the sad email from Don's family. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. God Bless You Don....I am honoured to have known you for such a brief time.

he never spoke bad about anyone,

Don--I miss you.
These words are an inside joke; however, they are extremely fitting.

Indeed and Concur

As a beliver in "the great beyond", I hope that since Friday, Don has gotten some time in a cub, 172, 777, or whatever aircraft he feels like, and maybe spent some quality hangar time with others that we have lost.

My condolences to his family.

There!
We walk on the moon, we test nuclear bombs and pump billions into rotten banks. But we can´t find a cure for this goddamn disease.

Rest in Peace, Don! Just loved you, man ...

I subscribe 200% with what ITS said.

I knew him only in Internet forums (AD.com, JP.net, fromtheflightdeck and AD.info). However, in private messages we talked about things ranging from technical (what happens when you turn downwind) to personal (health, family...).

He is one of the very few members that I will be really sorry not having met personally. Nothing against the other members, but Don was just special.

All in all, an excellent human being from every point of view.

I will miss you Don. I'm already missing you.

This, and other forums, have lost the most knowledgeable and well balanced person to be found.

Condolences to his family and everyone else who knew him. He will be missed.

Can someone close to Don perhaps post portions of the obituary?

For the sake of his family's privacy, please edit out sensitive details but it would be nice to know a few more things.

In particular if we might contribute to an ALS research fund, or some aviation fund in Don's memory.

I tried to do this, including some searches for "Prescott AZ obituaries" but did not find Don.

Thanks.

Damn..... I didn't expect that news.

I know a few people that worked with him..... He was missed when he retired.

Sorry I didn't get to meet him in person.

I'll miss your input Don.
you still have to find a crew willing to fly this "barely airworthy" heap
no such thing as "barely airworthy" it's either Airworthy or Not
100% incorrect Ever hear of Ferry Permit? issued for Non airworthy aircraft

Rest in peace, Don, from your contributions throughout all these years it was cristal clear that you were a fine gentleman. Our group of enthusiasts has lost a very important member and we will miss you! I am sad this happened since I remember Don telling us he was leaving Singapore and returning home for health reasons. Never thought his life would end so quickly.

Thanks Z.A. for giving me this news, as sad as it is.
