"Spin us some yarns, Cap'n!", said the cabinboy, "and how they differ from FL320."
Re: Shade-O-Matic
In recent Months I rode several fairly full 757's.
It was effortless as many of the flights were four-one-oh'd.
What can one say, but Boeing

Even if I run the risk of making myself a fool: Pray tell what 410-ing a flight is.

Climbing to flight level 410 (41,000 feet)Even if I run the risk of making myself a fool: Pray tell what 410-ing a flight is.
It's a fairly high altitude and not all planes (perhaps including the 757 at times?) can get there.
Arguably, it's a fairly good accomplishment to get there.
It is especially noteworthy in regards to the empty Pinnacle CRJ crash. FL410 is the "service ceiling" of a CRJ, and there was a contest to see how fast a plane could arrive at FL410, and the quotes on the CVR of "let's four one oh it, dude".
My understanding is that climbing to FL410 is 1) a pretty good performance challenge for a CRJ in the first place and 2) the climb was mishandled with them arriving at a low airspeed, behind the power curve, and unable to accelerate.
The 757 (as a contrast) seemed to get to FL410 easily with a full passenger load and ~4 hours worth of fuel.
Thus, another endorsement for Being boeing great.

Re: Shade-O-Matic
You altitude amuses me InTheShade.
I've worked airplanes flying almost twice as high as that.
Even your every-day puppy mill biz jet pilot flies around at FL450+
FL330 is old school, an altitude reserved for old dilapidated aircraft that just can't keep up with their newer younger brothers.
Hell even cracker-box A330's can get up to FL390 and sometimes 410 going transatlantic just after departure.

Hey, as much as I think flying the airlines would be cool,
Bottom line is, I work in aviation, I make good money, I'm home every night for regular 27 year old wifey time, and I go flying on my schedule.
If I ended up going the airline route, I'm sure I would have loved it, but I wouldn't trade this gig

Probably the DeHavilland Beaver, Ed. Remember, we're talking 63,500' Canadian, which is about 4,700' US. A Beaver can easily manage that.OK, now you have my attention. What aircraft have you worked that are flying 63.5k?I've worked airplanes flying almost twice as high as that.

So I guess you told him to switch frequency?
I'll tell you exciting.
Being on an unamed base in an undisclosed country watching the mission launch for something of this type take place.
You'll never see it sitting in a chair bent over a scope.

Is the "real good hint" the data, the photo, or the aircraft type noted in the URL of the photo?

Sorry, by the initial postings, discussions of CRJs, etc, I was under the assumption we were talking commercial aircraft, not research aircraft.I said almost twice as high...
