CRJ-100 down in Armenia

Plane crashes in Armenian capital

A plane with 21 people on board has crashed in flames, shortly after taking off from Yerevan airport in Armenia. The Canadian-built CRJ-100, operated by the Belarussian airline Belavia, had just left en route for Minsk when it caught fire. There were no fatalities, but four people were taken to hospital with serious burns, a local official said. Yerevan's Zvartnots airport was temporarily closed after the crash, which took place at 0415 (0015GMT). "Nearly everyone on board received burns of various degrees," said Gayane Davtyan, a spokeswoman for Armenia's civil aviation authority. There were 18 passengers and three crew on flight 1834. Sixteen of those on board were Armenian nationals. The nationalities of the others are not known. So far there is no indication of the cause of the crash.

Any more info on this incident?
Did the aircraft get airborne?
Judging from the injury reports, it sounds like an aborted T/O.

Here is a link to an English news report.
Evidently the aircraft became inverted after lift off and burst into flames as it crashed.
Very strange. Asymmetric flap settings?

According to AP the plane "flipped over" during take off.

Apart from being gutted by post-crash fire the fuselage looks quite intact, seems a bunch of people were rather lucky.
Looking forward to a report on this accident, especially to know at what speed the inversion took place.

Reminiscent of something in the 1980's? where a DC-9 with icy wings "stalled at liftoff" and flipped over. Similar picture, an upside down, largely in tact plane.

It is amazing in these cases how the plane stays in tact, and contrasts with Iowa City and the french water landing where planes are landed more or less in tact and then break up in the surfing and sliding. (Size differences acknowledged).

Actually much more reminiscent of several CRJ / Challenger accidents (including one just a month ago) in wintry conditions where the aircraft has turned over on take-off and where icing was the main suspect.

I have read somewhere (don't recall the source) that the PIC said that the aircraft banked to the left after rotation and that the wingtip touched the ground after which it turned over.

Maybe a stall after rotation due to icing, followed by a snap roll?
