More Oooooooops!!!

Since we have a landing on a taxiway, might as well try a takeoff:

FlightGlobal:
Hong Kong controller halts Finnair A340 taxiway take-off
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Investigators in Hong Kong have opened an inquiry after the attempted departure of a Finnair Airbus A340 from a taxiway at the international airport.

The incident occurred on 26 November, says Finnair safety vice-president Antti Aukia.

He says that preliminary information suggests the A340 - registered OH-LQD - had originally intended to depart on runway 07L.

The taxiway ran parallel to the prescribed runway but there was no other traffic involved.

Air traffic control intervened to halt the take-off and the aircraft taxied back to the correct departure point, from where it left without further incident, and arrived in Helsinki about 55min behind schedule.

Never been there myself, (Parlour Talk to Follow) but presumably taxi out on TWY B and make the right turn at the end to depart on 07L but end up on TWY A

Why on earth would a lowly ATC interfere with a Sky-god's operation of a perfectly serviceable aircraft. Do they not not their place. What is the world coming too?
One wonders what went through the pilots head when reality hit and what went through his mind on his merry way back to Finland. Poor bugger.

That's pussy parlour talk, DP. Even 3WE could have figured that out.

I have no doubt that it was a very long flight. Whenever you hear an ATC facility tell another aircraft to call 'such and such' phone number upon landing, there's always a moment of silence on the radio frequency. I was once in the back of one of our planes commuting down to work as a passenger and after landing and exiting the aircraft, I saw that I knew both of the cockpit crew and greeted them enthusiastically. There were both white as ghosts and very quiet as they told me that they had had a small incursion during the taxi out at our departure station and were given the dreaded "number" to call upon landing. They had to deal with that all the way down and you have to wonder if they were technically 'fit to fly'.

If I was really going to Parlour Talk, I'd try to figure out exactly what whopping lie they told to the passengers when explaining the aborted first takeoff on the PA.

I was on an aborted take-off and the pilot simply told the truth- a Cessna Citation crossed in front of him. His voice had a little shake to it, though.

That's interesting, DP. I say that because at our airline we have a procedure in place specifically to prevent the offending crew from "being white as ghosts" over these things and possibly being not fit to fly. The procedure is as follows:

1. Upon landing the offending crew is to notify our Central Safety Committee of what took place. A committee member (one of which I'm hoping to soon become) will then contact the ATC facility in question. The crew is NOT to do it themselves.

2. Within 24 hrs both crewmembers must file an ASAP report.

The crew will make its confession to the "Central Safety Committee" - how deliciously Soviet!

And how will this avoid that they made their flight like "white ghosts"?
Knowing that they may feel more protected AFTER landing, I believe that they will not take the matter of their heads DURING the flight. Will they?
Just another cast away from AD.com that reached AD.info island.
