Boeing seems to have missed a sign:
In 2006, Securaplane's administration building "burned to the ground" because of a botched laboratory test involving a GS Yuasa battery designed for the 787.

In case of the FAA, the type isn't technically grounded (that would require emergency revocation of the C of A, as with the DC-10 back in the day). Instead, there is an emergency AD, details here:

http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guida ... rgency.pdf

It appears the AD requires modification of the battery system, but it doesn't seem to say what sort of modification.

Imagine if a foffie had to ride both a 787 and an A380...
I would love to see Flyboy comforting him/her :D.

I think airplanes need special batteries.

For example, who had a toy plane as a kid, where you used one of these to operate the glow plug?

Their shares are dropping like their planes!!!!!11111234

That's a TOTAL SHARE DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!111

(I love how the scale makes it seem like their shares fell to almost 0 instead of falling only 4 dollars :D)

Algeria and inauguration has taken top spot in the news rotations, so Boeing must be pleased about that.
Had this happened in a quieter news week we'd still be poring over the details of the batteries.

I hope they sort the battery issue out - is the grounding notice based solely around that?

Just curious, Ike and with no knowledge of the industry. Have you considered jobs abroad, Asia, ME or wherever they require pilots. I understand that you are still single? What's holding you back, ratings?
Per
I have considered the Middle East. The guy that got me my Qatar interview (to which I didn't go) was about to upgrade to Captain on the A330 this year. He got so fed up with the ragheads that he decided to join my current airline behind me. Did I mention he is Pakistani and Muslim and still he couldn't stand it anymore?

Hope that answers your question.
I have heard terrible things about working for that one. Like, if you screw up you are liable to get arrested on some trumped up charge like destruction of property, or whatever.

That's insane!
I hear that at Boeing screwing up is part of the job spec.

I'm guessing the mayor problem for that guy was being an Asian. Asians are basically treated like slaves in the ME.

Pheew, good to know, not that you'll find me on a "Dreamliner" (I bet they regret that name big time) anytime soon.
