MD 88 Skids off Runway at LGA

Postby J » Thu Mar 05, 2015 5:00 pm

Based on the photo it looks like the plane struck a berm and sheared off the nose gear.

We have two commercial pilots who regularly visit there. We await their comments.

In the 1980's, there was a promotional phrase: "Delta Get's you there".

With the sad reply, "But we're not saying exactly how you'll arrive".

Excellent.

I've heard that these incidents can result in lots of paperwork that might cut into your important participation in various forums.

Hmmm...some current talk (Av-Herald and "there") is that the autobrakes did not activate due to the spoilers not auto-activating...with Evan being condescending that you need to know to really pull the spoiler handle ALL the way back...

...this is causing me my own of "pimple-faced", "MSFS", "arm-chair", "Why-didn't-they-JUST-thoughts."

...Why don't pilots just keep their feet on the brake pedals as a safety backup?

...Why don't they just use gentle reverse and roll out REAL long on the nice long runway.

Standard disclaimer: Indeed, these thoughts are easy to come up with when operating a computer at 0 kts and all the time in the world to think about stuff.
