Air Transat Pilots Pulled From Jet and Arrested on Suspicion of Being Drunk

Sir : clearly you don't understand how the aviation industry works! When deficiencies are found in how aircraft are operated, engineers, regulators, and the airlines work together to develop a practical solution.

In this case, in the event of fuel loss the pilots could have opened the cockpit windows and the alcohol they were exhaling would have fueled the engines, allowing the flight to continue safely.
