Air Transat Pilots Pulled From Jet and Arrested on Suspicion of Being Drunk
Excerpt:
...passengers on a flight to Toronto from Glasgow could be forgiven for being upset Monday morning after police officers hauled two pilots from the cockpit of their plane, an Airbus A330, on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol. The flight was operated by Air Transat, a carrier based in Montreal.
The pilots — men ages 37 and 39 — were arrested shortly before takeoff and were scheduled to be charged on Tuesday in Paisley Sheriff Court, not far from Glasgow International Airport and about 10 miles west of Glasgow’s city center.

One of the pilots in that case had consumed at least 15 rum and Diet Cokes, according to testimony and records presented at that trial. The two other pilots shared at least seven pitchers of beer, witnesses said.

[Another Air Transat flight almost ran out of fuel back in 2001 over the Atlantic when a crew failed to detect an A330's fuel management system happily dumping fuel overboard through a broken fuel line while trying to maintain balance. ]

Sir : clearly you don't understand how the aviation industry works! When deficiencies are found in how aircraft are operated, engineers, regulators, and the airlines work together to develop a practical solution.[Another Air Transat flight almost ran out of fuel back in 2001 over the Atlantic when a crew failed to detect an A330's fuel management system happily dumping fuel overboard through a broken fuel line while trying to maintain balance. ]
In this case, in the event of fuel loss the pilots could have opened the cockpit windows and the alcohol they were exhaling would have fueled the engines, allowing the flight to continue safely.
What's the problem?

Seems a bit like improvisation...is this in the FCOM?Sir : clearly you don't understand how the aviation industry works! Wow! It seems like just maybe, following proper procedures at certain times can be important.

Or is it a broad fundamental rule to protect and confirm evidence?Quote = Evan Law:
