Cowboy pilots, lax management, poor attention to procedure, violation of stabilized approach criteria, failure of the fundamental of watching airspeed closely and a relentless pull up...

Clearly we need more training, better screening and some more regulations.

Boy does that give me a sense of deja vu! https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2015/ ... story.html

Seems like just getting the pilot to show up for training was a challenge. And what's with the test results? Being nice to someone and grading a test 100 when they actually got 95 is one thing but 100 for 40?

Indeed...and these guys were fairly senior pilots and somewhat parallel in their disregard for procedure.

As much as I bash, pure , mindless, robotic procedure; 2000 fpm descents within 1000 feet of the ground y no observando cuidadosamente la velocidad del aire, is pretty bad.

But they compensated their excessive vertical speed with insufficient horizontal speed :P.

I think 2000 fpm descent within 0 feet of the ground is more the problem.

...but isn't the oft-rehearsed procedure to firewall the throttles and make a hard (but measured) pull up...perhaps they were following some procedures.

I noticed the F/O was ex-Sky King. For those not familiar, Sky King was a charter 737 operator out of Miami that was somewhat of a ragtag outfit even in the fast-and-loose South Florida charter market...
