Delta 767 Blows its Flight to CDG

Delta flight blows tires during emergency landing at JFK airport

Without quoting Fox I'll just note that the EWR-CDG Flight 20 diverted to JFK on September 24 after experiencing "hydraulic failure." The plane landed heavy and a couple of main landing gear tires failed.

According to Flightwaware the PAX enjoyed cruising at 25,000 feet and speeds up to 530 mph for about 30 mins before descending.

...According to Flightwaware...
I love the speed fluctuations as I ASSume they fly "up" and "down" wind in holding patterns.

The dip to 1500 feet and then back up was interesting.

"Hydraulic failure" + busted tires sounds a bit scary to me- just how much was this thing under control?

How did they bust the tires, porpoiseing?

Do we think they called upon phugoid training to accomplish this "excellent" landing?

On the FlightAware site you can move the horizontal slider beneath the chart to reenact the flight. There must have been 10 orbits SW of JFK.

to accomplish this "excellent" landing?
Good, not perfect, since the airplane needs maintenance work before further flight.
