Near meteor disaster?

It seems likely that a meteor (or satellite re-entry) disaster has narrowly been avoided.

We observed something similar two nights ago while on the CWRLD4 STAR into Orlando. We were about abeam St Augustine when something very bright flashed well off to the West and seemed to be heading downward. What I thought was unusual about it was that the flash was much lower than I'm accustomed to seeing (at least it LOOKED much lower).
