737 Over Run, FLA 5/2019

Postby 3WE » Sat May 04, 2019 2:58 pm

I'm sure there's an interesting story with much swiss cheese.

9000 ft runway, passengers report two bounces, parlour fora report a 15 kt tailwind.

Evanie proclaims "get there itis" with a jab about trim switches. I also assume there is joy that an obsolete 737 has been removed from service with no loss of life.

Yes...

Sad that “acronym, button” are where his brain is, versus full power, crisp, managed pull up, and climb.

I will say that you still want to click the TOGA buttons because that re-programs the AP and FD for the go-around (heading, altitude, target pitch, etc...)

Sounds convenient. I don’t think Bobby had that on his ETOPS DC-3.

Watched a little of today's NTSB press conference. Apparently they didn't have the full runway to use, as the navy had a wire across the runway about 1200 feet in to catch carrier based aircraft in case they couldn't return to the carrier. They still had 7800ish feet, so should have been plenty.

Blatant double post:

Today's internet headline admonishes the pilots for a stupid decision to change runways to enable training on a preferred and longer runway.

I don't think the choice of a shorter runway is necessarily the problem- but perhaps the switchover got rushed, was "not-so-stabilized", and subsequently botched in a few different ways?
This might be a contributing factor.

Would have to have been for training; if you're just trying to land you don't need to catch anything with the tailhook if you've got a mile to roll out. Or so I'd think, anyway.
