A Major Event

Postby flyboy2548m » Sat Dec 04, 2010 11:21 pm

In one's aviation career there are peaks and valleys, rises and falls, crests and drops. And sometimes one reaches a true pinnacle. Today I did just that. Today I did something as a pilot that most of you unworthy slobs will never even do as passengers.

Today a 410'd an airplane.

The curvature of the Earth peaked through the cloud decks, and from up there the grass looked a magical shade of cerulian.

I marvelled at my good fortune while thinking of all of you poor bastards.

Awesume bro, but you didn't die in a fiery ball and smoking hole, so I'd say job only half done, dude.

But I did fly on the very edge of the coffin corner and as the barber poles came closer and closer together, the fear of breaking up and dying became more and more palpable.

Today "a" hung out with my boys watching college basketball and football, eating pizza and thinking of all the poor bastards that were stuck at fl410. Life is good here on the ground.
you still have to find a crew willing to fly this "barely airworthy" heap
no such thing as "barely airworthy" it's either Airworthy or Not

What were the variables that came together to make this possible?
Light load?
Winds?
Temp?

There were many variables, but one certainty was superior airmanship.

I am about to do all three this week.

Dude, around the world (especially the shortest route) in an airplane isn't that big a deal anymore..... do it in a hotair balloon or sailboat and I'll be impressed.

It seems that about 1/2 the time I ride a 757, I get four-one-oh-ed- after a very normal time period climbing, with a very clear power reduction and change in vertical acceleration. Seems like a huge non event and the Earth looks at least 85% the same out the side windows as compared to being at FL360 where the old lowly airliners flew.

I flew IN a CRJ out of ORD on Saturday....apparently, we were only at FL370....no inflight movie, but there were 2 flight attendants deadheading, so we had a flight attendant-to-pax ratio of almost 1:1. I got a coffee AND I got a refill on my coffee. It was fantastic.

I had a funny rental car..a Nissan....and it had a push-button to start it instead of a key. I realized a couple of things while in and around the Chicago area: (1) the rest of China is there, and (2) there are more toll roads per linear millimetre than anywhere on the planet.

Charles will probably reprimand you for bringing up anything of the sort.

Dude, do you know when to quit? Chaz asked: "How many times have you even flown an airplane." I responded with one I have flown that I was pretty sure
he hadn't. That's enough for me.
