Satellite TV antenna. Either that or we're looking at a prototype of Royal Australian Navy's upcoming Hermes Mk 1 ASW/AsuW aircraft, and that's a SATCOM antenna to communicate with the admiralty. What's the "blister" atop that 737?

Re: FAO ALL...........
Its what FB said some of our aircraft are fitted with whats call Live2air its foxtel TV channels, it was one of our former CEO's ingenious idea's which is an epic fail, it would have cost the airline a fortune, not only to fit out the aircraft with it but also the extra drag/weight on the aircraft, but also if it is a lease aircraft when the aircraft returns to the lessor the system has to be removed which costs around a $1M.What's the "blister" atop that 737?
I was a bit concerned with that Southwest incident as I do know three of our ex B737-700's are now with Southwest and when I had heard of that incident I thought it may have been one of our ex aircraft and when they have removed that randome they hadnt re-done the top of the fuselage properly, but obviously it was a -300 so no issue.

Re: FAO ALL...........
First of all, Marty, it's called a radome. Not that it matters, that antenna is not a radome anyway. Second of all, I don't think a bagchucker should worry about structural impact of the removal of a non-structural component. Stick to kneepads and cargo holds, where you belong.I was a bit concerned with that Southwest incident as I do know three of our ex B737-700's are now with Southwest and when I had heard of that incident I thought it may have been one of our ex aircraft and when they have removed that randome they hadnt re-done the top of the fuselage properly, but obviously it was a -300 so no issue.

Why shouldn't I worry, the radome is attached to the fuselage so when its removed the top of the fuselage has to be re-skinned, if the re-skinning isn't done correctly you are going to get de-pressurisation which was the result from the Southwest incident.First of all, Marty, it's called a radome. You see I ask questions and find out about things that is how I know and learn. I dont mind putting on my knee pads and getting in holds though.

The important thing, Marty, is not asking questions. The important thing is asking the right questions. To quote the great Japanese philosopher Mr. Miyagi "Answer only important if ask the right question, Julie-san..."You see I ask questions and find out about things that is how I know and learn. I dont mind putting on my knee pads and getting in holds though.
BTW, you didn't actually ask a question, you just blurted out some nonsense. Not all antenna removals require reskinning, again, we're not talking about a structural component here.

Re: FAO ALL...........
I believe from what Im told our aircraft do require re-skinning as the edge of the radome is attached to the top of the fuselage once its removed the area is re-skinned to to the rivtes/bolts that hold it in place. The important thing, Marty, is not asking questions. I do think I ask the right questions of pilots and engineers that I speak too, I have some very good and interesting conversations with my peers and have learnt alot.

Why is that? we work together to get the job done, I get along and speak to many engineers and pilots who I have got to know over the years.
