I thought all new jets had winglets now. Why not on these?
The Boeing engineer was drunk and drew the lines horizontal instead of vertical

If you look closer you'll note that neither the 787 nor the 747-8 (arguably the newest jets) have winglets. Not exactly winglets anyway.

Basically, winglets have been added to old wing design technology to increase efficiency. Newer technology has enabled designing efficiency into the wing without winglets.

no such thing as "barely airworthy" it's either Airworthy or Not
100% incorrect Ever hear of Ferry Permit? issued for Non airworthy aircraft

Are you implying that there are non-drunk Boeing engineers?
yes, they were responsible for the vertical winglets on the rest of the Boeing products.

I would've thought Verbal would chime in and educate us on the influences of wing-tip design. Increase in lift, increase in weight, increase in bending moment, reduction in cruise fuel usage, and will it fit in parking areas.
