On the topic of IFE and takeoff-flap watchers...

Postby 3WE » Sun Nov 16, 2014 3:42 pm

A friend just described that his seat-back video screen had a computer-generated "simulated cockpit view".

...and he said it showed them landing at SFO, several hundred feet off laterally into the bay  .

No problem...a half-real, half-fake, half-ass computer entertainment app...a little error between the location data and the system data...

BUT:

We have made lots of jokes about folks rushing the cockpit to be part of good CRM and inform the flight crew...but those of us who watch flaps have to have at least a little knowledge base and effort to know what to look for...

Seems to me that giving the broad range of intelligence in the general public, that stuff like this with the ease of an I-Pad is asking for some un-pretty incidents in the cabin, hysterical screaming and cursing,, broken fingers and severe wear and tear on the FA call buttons, and maybe even a genuine run for the cockpit door.
