While waiting for the young 'un in the East Cell Phone Parking lot, I see a 727 parked near the DHL cargo building...maybe 500 feet away?
It's beacon lights start flashing and I hear familiar sounds from a few years ago...
It begins a 2-mile taxi to the west. As it nears the approach end, the cell phone rings and I am off to areas that are 'under ground' and behind terminal buildings.
I miss the glorious departure of the sound of three not-so-quiet, not-particularly-high-bypass turbofans; however, I am still aware that there is no computer second guessing the control inputs and making its own decision on what to do with the control surfaces and that no side stick, and minimal cheap structural composites.
Also, it was dark, and therefore, not conducive to jet-picture-taking.

Re: Almost great night at Flyover International
Thanks for clarifying, I was wondering if you determined it was "night" because the airplane had long shadows...it was dark
I would love to hear again 727s (and BAC 1-11s... and 737-200s and DC-9s/MD-8xs...) taking-off...

I forgot to add that should they have encountered UAS, they should seek daylight VFR as soon as reasonable (after waiting 4 minutes for the UAS to clear, of course.)Thanks for clarifying,it was dark

Please, define "daylight". After checking the photography forum there, it is my understanding that 99% of the day is actually night.they should seek daylight VFR as soon as reasonable

Good question. I will need to check the FARs. I think if you are operating before or after sunrise, sunset, you must have night training and currency, but the currency requires 30 exta minutes to assure darkness. Please, define "daylight". Strange, two Fed Ex pilots are checking in at the hotel...a credental Lanyard says 767...why do I want to yell, "Hey Charles!"?

And...definitely a 3BS award for ass-hat talking. Logged nighttime currency experience must be from 1 hour after sunset to 1 hour before sunrise.Good question. I will need to check the FARs. Nighttime operation rules kick in from the civil twilight times (which vary somewhat).
I also found this that discusses some gray areas and possible inconsistencies: https://www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all ... s-of-night
Perhaps we should have Evan weigh in.
...and I saw the two Fed Ex guys later in 'street clothes'. I didn't ask them if they knew Charles nor did I ask about assisting during first aid incidents.

You should have done that... with your cellphone on your ear, so you could fake a conversation if awkwardness ensued .why do I want to yell, "Hey Charles!"?
