Seems like a lot of pretty silly work if you ask me - a robot pilot that can flip switches?

1. Concur.

2. While it will likely be rare, somehow, I foresee a relentless pull up... plus, it looks like its built from a certain amount or cheap composites.

What if the captain becomes incapacitated, will Otto be able to take over?
