Emirates plane, world's largest passenger aircraft, to land in Dublin this March

DUBLIN, Ireland - An Emirates A380, the world's largest passenger aircraft, will land at the Dublin Airport for the first time this month on its way to Dubai, although the aircraft has previously landed at Shannon.

"Emirates can confirm that an A380 aircraft on its way to Dubai will visit Dublin at the end of March," the airline told Independent.ie Travel.

The touchdown of the A380 at Dublin had been hinted at for a while now, with an Emirates executive - country manager Enda Corneille - tweeting out images of the A380 over the past few days.

According to Corneille, the A380 will arrive at Dublin on March 26 at 2.10PM.

Yes.

One day an ORD to DFW 767 had a medical emergency, diverted and landed.

It made the evening news.

TWA's latter years gave us occasional 747's, L-1011's and 767's (along with J-31's, 41's, Saabs and ATR's). 'We' miss wide bodies and now consider 757's a big deal.

Note: This would be good for our economy, better to get more places non stop and to utilize our pavement, gates and ATC professionals and rampies, but would not_help in the wide-body department (not that TWA wasn't a DC-9 show for the most part here, anyway.)

Yes...but the tendency for overnight operations and North-side parking makes them harder to catch and particularly harder to photograph.

The AA 767 medical incident truly made the evening news- and in a slightly surprising turn of events, they didn't even take it to a gate, even though there probably were jet bridges available...

Bottom line is that we do kind of suck vs. the olden days even though we have more operations and passenger numbers than Des Moines or Big Rock. It would be quite a deal if an A-380 stopped by.

The decision, which will be hugely disappointing for aviation fans, is due to "operational reasons outside of Emirates' control", the airline says.

Emirates had previously confirmed that an A380 "will visit Dublin at the end of March," stirring huge excitement among Irish plane-spotters.

An A380 has never landed at Dublin Airport, leading some to compare the anticipation to that surrounding visits by Concorde in the 1980s.

The Airbus A380, which first entered service in 2007, is the world's largest passenger plane. Emirates is its largest global operator, with 93 A380s currently in service.

This week, Emirates Ireland boss Enda Corneille tweeted that the A380 visit has been "delayed" rather than postponed, with new date a possibility.

Eyewitnesses see and video a very large loud plane "like they have never heard before" flying "very low" near Flyover International Airport.

After calling a couple of airbases in the region, it is determined that a KC-135 crew from The Barak Obama Air Force Base in Coalville, IL is out flying from Coalville to Flyover to practice landings.

WAS it worth the wait or was Singapore Airlines’ Airbus flyover on the Swan River the biggest anticlimax the city’s seen?

Hundreds of aviation enthusiasts waited over an hour at Kings Park to catch only a glimpse of the airline’s new Airbus A350 as it conducted a low flight over the city to mark the airline’s 50th year of Perth service about 2.30pm.

One worker admitted he’d wagged work to see the plane, others brought their children, while a handful even made sure they were on the plane for the one-off flight.

Yet, judging by the lacklustre reaction of those who witnessed it, the flyover left a lot to be desired.

There were no cheers and there was no applause, only groans as the crowds dispersed into Kings Park.

Well that's 10 minutes of my life that I will never get back,” one Facebook user wrote.

“Every plane that leaves Sydney flies lower than that. Some one owes me data (sic),” another said.

Yet, this is Perth after all - the same city that drew crowds for the opening of Aldi’s first WA store and filled carparks for free potatoes at Spudshed.
