Had an extremely mundane adventure on May 3. Southwest Airlines delivered me one hour (and change) late from Houstion to Flyover, while negotiating severe thunderstorms, all for an amazingly cheap Internet fare.

(I suppose I should have made an ass of myself due to the lateness, and although I didn’t have a COC to read, I figured the one-hour delay thing was covered, and I didn’t want to be zip tied.)

Standard flight report checklist:
-I didn’t died
-This was a 737-300 so no on-board wi-fi (it was even the extra nasty old livery)
-I asked no questions of the flight crew for fear of being zip tied
-I was not informed of being bumped- in fact the plane was REALLY light (and I got boarding position B1!) and I had three seats to myself.
-We encountered some clear air turbulence while the seatbelt sign was off, but it was the normal every-day type of stuff. My seatbelt was fastened (The hosties/hosthe’s were kept seated during climb out- turbulence was ordinary, but hey, they looked like nasty storms.)
-Hostie/Hosthe attractiveness was a B+

Important lavatory notes: We were held on the ramp for ~30 min…the pilot said, Please stay seated with your seatbelt fastened, but if you need to use the Lav, OK. Also, shortly before our descent I hit the lav and the magical time when the seatbelt sign kicked on as I was exiting…Miraculously, I was not yelled at, tackled, nor asked to talk to law enforcement after the flight. (See how wonderful SWA is!)

I took some I-phone jetphotography that I kind of like. Obviously, the photos are flawed, and not of interest to the screeners there.

Fotografia uno: Minimal art value...Proof of it being a good ole -300 (with the 'hideous winglets' as Evan likes to call them)

(whoops, the pic is sideways)...will try to rectify before this post locs down.

PS, this is fairly near Houston, TX, some small, developing storms.

Fotografia dos: Failed attempt at artsy-ness. However, I included it as this cell has a traditional overshooting tops, and, I suspect later become a tornadic storm (A glimpse at the Weather Channel later in the day seemed to confirm this.)

Fotografia quatro: Here's the one I like. (This one actually shows the 'hideous' winglet.) Yeah, I see the reflection artifact and smudge problem...Still, the sun shining brightly on the wing and the little popcorn-towering-Cbs (yeah an acronym)...Sort of Kind of Cool.

I do not plan to submit it there, but hope it is enjoyed here.

I forgot to discuss the slightly unique route of going strongly west, all the way past Austin, TX, Heading North, and somewhat West of DFW, and then joining a fairly typical arrival from the West/SW into Flyover. I believe that Houston routes in gentle weather go over Central Arkansas and Flyover's South/SE Arrival.

Got to see a lot of country and clouds and spend many more minutes doing so (but only got ONE bag of peanuts vs. two on the way down). :evil:

I'm sorry, but based on what I've read in internet forums, both of the above cannot possibly be true. The 733 is old and therefore unsafe and if you fly on one you're sure to die. :mrgreen:

I THINK Southwest has flat screen television on all aircraft, and thus a bit of electronic wizardry to help the stupid, reckless pilots avoid cowboy improvisation. However, since they are a discount carrier, the real concern is that they routinely cut corners on maintenance and, therefore, earn an honorable-mention on some folk's no-fly lists. :mrgreen:

Did you fear that the pilots might have been used to the automation level of the B737NG and expect that millenary -300 to fly by itself, leading to a total air disaster?

So, in summary:
He flew in an obsolete ancientliner and didn't died.
He flew Southwest and didn't experience depressurisation nor runway overruns.
He was walking down the aisle when the seatbelt sign came on and wasn't shouted at/tackled/subdued/tied or forcefully deplaned after an emergency landing at the nearest airport.
He operated an electronic device (his cellphone) and it did not interfere with any flight instrument -as far as we know- and the airplane did not crash.
He was served only one peanut bag in one of the flights and didn't make a scandal.

I am flying SW (for the first time) ELP-AUS on May 17 and back on May 19. I hope I am equally lucky and I don't died.
SW is the only airline connecting the 2 cities direct, reducing cost, time and number of take-off and landings (where you are more likely to died)

That's manageable. I will go straight, avoid the loo (since I am a pilot), and avoid flight attendants. Take-offs and landings are harder to avoid.

Takeoffs can always be avoided.

Plus, I think Pilots are probably more threatening as passengers.

We think we know things we don't. Like forgotten flaps. And then we claim the right to violate FARs as appropriate or offer to assist if needed.

Nope. Since I was already working for this company in Argentina, the type that applies in this case is L-1 (internal transfer). In my case, L-1A to be more precise.

Because it's apparently been determined that we can fix all our country's problems by shipping everyone here on an H-1B visa back where they came from. That of course is not to be confused with the H-2B visa which is what all the workers at Mar-a-Lago have. :roll:
