I remember lots of DIAGRAMS and even a few real pictures of jet bridges going to the front AND REAR of 707s....

I'm thinking that A380's are sometimes?/always? using double jet bridges.
One other twist- there was a time when planes parked parallel to the gate area, as opposed to perpendicular.

I took the rear stairs to get off of a JetBlue cracker box back in December. It was awful but the stairs were fine.
