Air Canada problems, the latest news...

Postby ocelot » Mon Jun 19, 2017 9:01 am

AC has been having quite the string of bad press lately... no one quite as bad as United's experiment with rubber hose PR, but a lot of them.

Just this week they contrived a rejected takeoff and a return-to-origin... on the same flight: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/ ... -1.4165527

Last week it came out that they'd been quietly cancelling people's tickets without telling them: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-c ... -1.4147410

Last month they walked away from their frequent flier program: http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/air-can ... -1.4109868

and there's been a whole string of high-profile overbooking/bumping incidents after the United fiasco brought the issue to the public's attention. As well as other stuff I don't remember in detail / don't have the links for any more.

And then on a more technical note, the report on the 2015 Halifax crash came out and put the blame very squarely on poor training and procedure for non-precision approaches: http://www.tsb.gc.ca/eng/rapports-repor ... 5h0002.asp

Meanwhile when WestJet gets in the news it's positive: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundl ... -1.4149194

In-market structural breakup in 18 months?
No.

1. Nicely worded statements from the PR department where they try to communicate that the airline actually cares.

AND

2. Business as usual.

monchavo flew with mrs monchavo last week LHR-YYZ-LHR. 787 800 on the outbound, 777-300 on the return leg. Return leg was very badly delayed. Ridiculous rebranding underway at AC, going back to pre-baby blue colours. Inexplicable. Service was adequate.

This sounds like it had the potential to be rather more serious.....

Now apparently they've decided to be a SAR contractor for the Aussies: http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/air-canada ... -1.1146862
