Here is an interesting development. The iconic terminal building designed by Saarinen (also designed the Dulles terminal and the St. Louis Arch) will be opening soon. The terminal will be the lobby with the new hotel unobtrusively in the background.

The building has appeared in many films including Catch Me if You Can (tubes with red carpets) and in this commercial for handbags. The models are somewhat distracting but you can see a lot of interior shots in the background.

I was there last weekend and saw it from the AirTain shuttle. It appears the new structures behind th terminal building are nearly completed but the white roofs of the terminal still look worn out and shabby. They are not seeking a room reservations yet but you can book an event. Must be close to ready.

Now they’re bringing in an ex-TWA Constellation to be a lounge.

JFK's TWA Hotel is Now Taking Reservations
Note it appears some rooms will not have runway views so book accordingly.

Think of it as the hottest hotel opening in New York this year. The TWA Hotel at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport will begin taking reservations on Valentine’s Day at noon EST on Thursday, February 14, 2019 for stays from May 15, 2019.
* * *
The hotel’s 512 midcentury modern-inspired guestrooms, which are indeed housed in new buildings behind the 1962 Eero Saarinen-designed landmark that is the heart of the hotel, will be available beginning on May 15, a date which the developers are calling the TWA Hotel’s soft opening. There will be a grand opening celebration in the fall. Room rates start at $249 a night.
* * *
The TWA Hotel will feature six restaurants and eight bars, including The Paris Café by Jean-Georges Vongerichten. There will also be an Intelligentsia coffee bar as well as coffee carts throughout the hotel grounds. A Lockheed Constellation L-1649A, nicknamed Connie, is being transformed into a cocktail lounge.

The retail outlets have yet to be named but the hotel owners clearly expect the hotel to serve more than transiting passengers, with 50,000 square feet of event space that includes a 15,000-square-foot ballroom. Need to work out the kinks before a flight? Do laps in the rooftop pool or workout in the 10,000-square-foot fitness center. For aviation buffs, just hanging out on the rooftop observation deck may be enough.

The TWA Hotel plans to offer reservations for shorter day stays, which will be ideal for JFK travelers who are transiting a place to shower, utilize the Wi-Fi, or fit in a workout.

Here is a frothy article with some photos showing the Constellation being placed into its new position as a cocktail lounge.

...the Constellation...
Maybe they should put that thing back into service... I bet it doesn't have a failure-prone system that causes it to try to dive into the ground unexpectedly!

Why Lufthansa Shelled Out $163 Million to Restore an Iconic ’50s Airliner—and Then Suddenly Pulled the Plug
Two classic Lockheed Starliners take unusual paths to being restored to their former glory.

COMMENT: Didn't realize that the ship now at the TWA hotel was earlier purchased by LH for parts to fully restore another Connie. Originally intended to be fully flyable, it now sits in a warehouse in parts....

Wow that's so sad what LH did... understandable sort of, but sad.

I bought a used car once under similar circumstances... the previous owner bought it as a basket case and with a lot of time and effort and money got it 90% fixed up. But his wife got fed up with the spending and made him sell it. I bought it, installed a few parts, and had a great car that I put 100K miles on.

Why Lufthansa...Suddenly Pulled the Plug
After reading important advice somewhere, they diverted the funding to psychological screening oversight, additional type-specific memory acronym checklist recurrent training, and aircraft storage oversight divisions to their company...
