Flight Report 9/10/2018

Postby 3WE » Wed Sep 26, 2018 4:18 pm

Southwest Airlines: KSLC ==> KPHX==>Flyover: 9/10/2018.

No failures of engines, windows nor right-main shimmy dampers.

Weather Exceptionally clear.

KSLC==>KPHX was in daylight and offered a very nice view of the Grand Canyon. Some crisp, but ordinary turbulence. Took off to the north and flew a LLLOOONNNGGG crosswind before turning South.

KPHX  Flyover happened from 7:00 PM to 11:50 PM (local times). It was an exceptionally direct routing- there was even minimal zig zagging on the arrival, we cut the corner to downwind and finally did one long slow graceful continuous descending turn from downwind to final.

I will have to glace at the KPHX arrivals- I found it a little strange that we aimed straight at the airport and made almost a textbook light plane entry/downwind/final. We also made some rather last minute left and right turns on final to the west- possibly a runway change. I thought (likely wrongly) that arrivals tended to route folks to corners- sort of 45 degrees off the runways- not so much straight for the field.

Weather was 95, 100 and then 68 degrees…We made a crazy square turn onto runway 34?R at PHX…”nothing more useless than runway behind you”.

We only had 60 folks on board to Flyover- and by some dumb luck, I landed A25 borading position and took seat A-1.

Going out of PHX, we saw four inbound planes in a row- spaced beautifully evenly on the arrival…nice straight line…we climbed above them as they worked their way down.

After that- serious boredom until Kansas (and what does THAT say?)

Did not partake of IFE, but did cash in some frequent flier coupons for alcho bevs which I did not photograph…Helped appreciate the of patches of lights below.

Did you drunkenly fighteded with other passengers and cabin crew?

Beautiful picture  , but we will have to reject it for too much or too little contrast, cropping, foreground clutter, etc.

Where in the hell did I come up with that?

Update: Musta missed the 2 and hit the 3...the 4 was a guess as being 10 degrees different from 25...maybe...

El Barranco Grande o El Gran Barranco (no El Grande Barranco)

El Barranco Grande
Apologies for getting the word order wrong. Posting pictures is always stressful as the smartphone auto-up feature goes away AND I've found that the right click rotate and/or going to Paint doesn't always fix things...nevertheless, I should have been better about El Barranco Grande.

- I believed (wrongly now I know) that your "El Grande Barranco" was just a word-by-word translation of "The Grand Canyon" (what it is, but I didn't know you were joking), so I just wanted to let you know that we have a name in Spanish for this geographical feature because I though that maybe it could be interesting for you to know such Spanish name.
- With similar educational intention, I explained the "gran vs grande" usage error, which is utterly common in non-native speakers because it is very rare in other languages and even in Spanish itself that an adjective would change depending on whether you place in before or after the noun.
- I am now wondering why I wasted my time writing "but close enough". Or this replay for this matter.
