Flight report Feb 2019

Postby 3WE » Sun Feb 03, 2019 5:51 pm

30 min delay. Pylon needs speed tape.

Where’s the tape? The third engine? The backup aircraft?

Maybe you should start bringing tape in your handbag, not only zip-ties.

Flight 2 now delayed for the elusive “Part”.

Indeed to the comment that I need to carry more stuff.

I’m at DFW, but on the west side. FedEx MD-11s don’t come over here much. :-(

Also, I need vectors to Sweet Monkey river, or the frequency for its ADF/NDB.

Delay now 1:45.

and the crew has walked off the plane!!!!!

OK, Flyboy, an emergency call for help- 1) What is the short list of "parts" that tend to break on a CRJ-200, are they important for safety (I'm comfortable with 1-engine medivac choppers), and what is the procedure for starting the dang thing.

I have my smart phone and think I can look up the necessary frequencies on my smart phone.

Then, if I take a predominate Northerly heading, I should be able to find OKC...the overcast seems to be thinning a bit.

Anyone have a favorite, clear channel AM Country music station near OKC that I can tune on the ADF (How do I tune that on a glass cockpit?). Is there any easy way to get a magenta line? (Background music would be nice too)

Thanks in advance.

Pushing 3 hours...new gate announced, but no plane...

I didn’t know 787s were so short and fat.

Now 4+ hours. Not sure what the deal is. Been on the plane 30 mins.

Update- new plane came with too much fuel...slowly offloading. They got the new plane over 1.5 hours ago, and no one thought to check the gas?

Airlines suck.

Update 4:20...the fuel crew isn’t actually here yet.

Weather ok in DFW- just a broken CRJ and one with too much fuel.

Crappy logistics.

Now 4:40...

Time to name names.

American Airlines

Cabin crew says “ if they would have just let us start the engines- we’d have burnt off the extra by now.”

Also rumors that they completely filled the first fuel truck.

I’m sure the crew is in touch with operations, who is using phrases like “roger that” and “on the way” and “just as soon as we can”.

Trouble is, those are meaningless phrases.

Did you rioted?

As long as the aeroplanie doesn't catch fire, I don't see the problem. After all, extra weight is going to be waaaaaaaaaaay less costly to the airline than the lawsuit TeeieVeeie is going to file for you.

In spite of essentially missing the world cup of real football, we did not_rioted.

4:50 minute delay.

Of note is that the flight crew made zero apologies-just the normal 'thanks for flying with us'. I'd blame AA, but it was a regional company.

Evan should note that a breakdown and swap out at a huge hub takes 5 hours-so getting that extra aeroplanie or part to Bum Frozen, Canada might take a while.

Being serious- the day had two separate aircraft problems (actually 3). And while is was a nice weather, calm Sunday, progress and more importantly, meaningful information was woefully lacking.

One of those times I probably should have driven.

These new aeroplanie-things are unreliable and dangerous. Why Not_travel with a proven method of transportation, like donkey carts?

Stuck in okc ice storm- stuck on ramp deicing- 1 hour in seats. Total flight crew silence. Connection missed, and the dumb app not offering new flights.

Of note are pax getting up to use lav on an active taxiway with the seatbelt sign on. I wonder if I should inform the crew of my PPL and willingness to zip tie these near rioting passengers?

Two spray jobs (15 min between)- pink stuff- and still ice cycles on wing. Crew reports that wind is complicating efforts. Third spray down underway.

Some reason they don’t do this before boarding?

Dudes soaking the hell out of wing this time. Trailing edge ice cycles seem to be holding. Blasted the leading edge soaked the top....conversely the little bitty back flap (737) still looks coated.

Pilot just set takeoff flaps (engines not started)

And now the whole flight just got canceled due to flight attendant time out. (And passengers asked off)

Oh, no- an update...the passengers say they don’t want off...we’re supposedly going

But another spray down (4) with flaps configured.

[Gabieeee:] Now that's a flight report!!!
I do not_believe that Oklahoma City is ~5280 MSL or above :-( so not that good, unfortunately...then again, if you re read the report, you will see that it was FOUR in an hour!

Departed 2.5 hours late- connection left long before arrival.

Now on a ~1:00 to ~3:00 ish flight to flyover...MAYBE.….Then again, hey, let's go for a grand slam and four straight delays!

I have a favorite moment from the Flyover glory days...riding a TWA MD8-something non-stop from San Antonio...A little bit North of Dallas I look down and another Red and White MD-80 emerges from the cloud deck on a largely similar course and climbs a bit to settle some thousands of feet below us...I kept it in sight for a good while, I think we gradually pulled away, joined the Trake (Western) arrival ahead of the Dallisonians and zig-zagged our way into the super-busy airport with two very close parallel runways...

We didn't died.

YES!

FOUR FOR FOUR....GRAND SLAM.

Inbound 10 min late AND THE FLIGHT CREW HAS CALLED MAINTENANCE!

“We need maintenance...gate 36...737-800.”

“Rodger that”

“Umm gate 36- we see that 3BS is on board...he’s buds with that bastard TeeVee...we’ll have a crew there in an hour to figure out if there’s a broken “part”....”. We’ll bring some zip ties when we come.

3. We arrive at A gate to be told- “no- go back to D- about 5 gates from where you first were.
