WASHINGTON (AP) - Defense Secretary Robert Gates says the Pentagon will end the F-22 fighter jet and presidential helicopter programs run by Lockheed Martin Corp.

If the aircraft is to be canceled, which I think is the right decision, why purchase four more for a total of 187, instead of the currently planned 183 ? Long-lead times ? Currently about 130 have been built.

By the way, the VH-71 presidential helicopter program has also been chopped.

Whilst the JSF might currently be cheaper on paper, I would not be surprised if it ends up almost as expensive as additional F-22s.
