EU defence ministers gave the go-ahead on Monday for a 3 billion euro plan for a new heavy transport helicopter and the project coordinator said it would invite the United States to participate and share costs.
The Franco-German initiative to develop the 32-35 tonne helicopter that is supposed to be fully operational by 2020 was confirmed as a project of the European Defence Agency (EDA) at a meeting of ministers from the 27 EU states in Brussels.
