The Spanish Air Force says two of its F-18 warplanes have crashed during a training mission at sea but both pilots have been rescued.
What is the cost of one of this birds?
Just another cast away from AD.com that reached AD.info island.

A lot less now than before the ejection.

Indeed, midair collision on training flight for electronic countermeasures at 9k mtrs.

Both pilots did not suffer any obvious injuries and were transported to hospital to make sure this was true, came out soon after.

General question:
Are military planes insured in any way (other than by the tax payer)?

I think you would find it hard to get an insurance company to insure military hardware. In Denmark the military does not insure their assets other than through the taxman. So I guess the Spanish can expect to see the guy in the cartoon from the Kraut Corner soon ;-)

Further to Sir G, military aircraft are not insured commercially in the US and UK armed forces, and I think this is pretty general.
