General Dynmaics F111 Aardvark Memories Thread

Postby B77W-QOTS » Fri Oct 08, 2010 12:12 am

With less than two months until the Royal Australian Airforce retires the F111 on the 3rd of December, and with the F111 having such a colourful history right through from its development to even today, I would like to hear opinions from everyone, share your own pictures on what over time got better with age and really currently in war fare terms still nothing matches the range, capabities and speed of the F111.

I think two of the current F111C's here in Australia are carrying the 'pigtails retirement markings' and there is an official ceremony, finals flights at Amberely Airforce base in Queensland on the 3rd of December ( would love to go but dont think I have time off) Point Cook RAAF Museum already has one G model 'boneyard wrangler' and it will be the only one retained of the ex USAF that the RAAF aquired at 'attrition' replacements the US government as part of the deal requires that all other G models are to be scrapped at the end of service. Currently the RAAF C models are up for sale at around $1M AUSD, four will be placed in museums around Australia one coming to Pint Cook another will be 'gate guard' at Amberley, another is going to Australia War Museum in Canberra and another is heading to Richmond RAAF base as a 'gate guard'.

Sadly, no. The -111F got destroyed when I first moved to Minnesota back in 1997, while the FB was on display at a hobby shop that has since closed, so I'm not sure what happened to it.

It only hit me yesterday but I now have Friday the 3rd of December off, so I will be travelling to Brisbane to farewell the F111's and see the final fly pasts.
