RAAF 90th Birthday Air Pilgrimage

Postby B77W-QOTS » Tue Mar 29, 2011 4:47 am

http://www.airforce.gov.au/raafmuseum/

Began today 60 warbirds/Vintage aircraft left Temora NSW for Tocumwal NSW where they will over night and then head to Ballarat VIC tomorrow where they will overnight again and then onto Pt Cook Thursday, Im heading to Ballarat tomorrow and then Pt Cook on Thursday should be quite awesome and as per usual plenty of pictures ;)

Tocumwal is one of the oldest RAAF WW2 inland bases as is Ballarat hence why the aircraft are traveling this route.

Pictures as promised :D All these were taken at Point Cook (Williams) RAAF Base located in Victoria which is where the RAAF was 'born' and it is still an active training base and home of the RAAF museum, I went into the 'strike hangar' and they have done a fantastic display in there with the F-111G, Canberra Bomber and F-4 Phantom, pity though funds are limited for the museum and the whole lot is heritage listed so they cant modify, add, remove much of whats there to make the museum better, there is a poor old Bristol Freighter outside going mouldy, two C-130 hercs (A and E model) that have been cocooned as has the Hawker Siddley and the DH-4 Caribou will also be cocooned shortly as they dont have hangars the right size to display these larger aircraft. Due to arrive at the museum in the coming months is a RAAF F-111C A8-125 and also the forward section of a B707 RAAF tanker, where they are putting those who knows.

Anyway photos enjoy ;)

No worries, when I get time I will go through and identify the aircraft. The Beechcraft Staggerwing was an awesome surprise though I must say :D Now know there are around 5 others flying in Australia and are valued at around $500K.
