How in the hell do I keep the plane straight?

Postby 3WE » Sat Jan 07, 2012 3:05 am

I guess the ability to rotate the the view around- causes me to not get it perfectly straight ahead and then I don't detect it when I have a little crab in.

I think "Boy that was a nice landing", then go to chase plane and yikes, I'm kinda crooked.

Is there any way to get some sort of nose out there in front of you? Right now it's panel and the world....I miss that nice rounded hood/cowling hump.

Try the 3D cockpit.

Isn't 3d the default?

Nevertheless, thanks, I will check.

...maybe that and plugging it into the flat screen TV...a readable 6-pack of instruments + all the electronic and engine stuff + a healthy slice of the outdoors is still tough to cram on a computer monitor....

...yeah, I've seen those set ups with a dozen monitors....at that point, you could probably start breaking even on a gas-powered, aluminum NON simulator.

Update...

I swtiched from the virual cockpit back to the "old plain" cockpit view where everything is SQUARE, and this addressed the problem.

Interestingly though- on the X version the screen is about 2/3 panel and 1/3 outside - not too different from that first FAA-approved PC instrument training software, there was a tiny slice of window.

Still wish Bill & company would put a glimpse of the cowl out the front- it might make the difference. The thing you really cant figure out is where your virtual head is and if your virtual head is cocked a bit sideways.

Most simulators allow (or, at least, used to allow) adding a mark to the windscreen to show which way the A/C is pointing. Look for "axis indicator" or similar in the config.
