12 months quarantine for Norwegian then. One remembers the introduction of the Screamliner.
Shudder.

More trouble than Norwegian expected during introduction. Lost them quite some goodwill with the Travelling Wildberries.
Surprised they gamble on a rerun.

Nope, ahora no. This time, blame pisco. Am in Ica , Peru on our return leg from Machu Picchu to Lima. Rented a "car" in Lima on the 16th and headed for MP. Drove through floods, mud and rock slides. A couple of times half the road had disappeared into the abyss. Good fun at night in driving rain. Longest leg @ 13 hours pluss straight.I blame the akkevit.
Highest point of the road at 4309 meters asl. "Car", a Kia something with a non-turbo engine ran out of breath well before that, me too.
More to follow, must drink alcohol.

Re: Norwegian exceptionalism
Five hour drive from Ica to Lima because damned Europcar could not give us an adress that could be used on the GPS.
Ever tried driving in Lima? Total f***ing madness. Used up all my Spanish convincing a police officer to stop the flow on a four lane motorway to change direction. Traffic running @ 100 km/h.
Tough guy, kudos!
Now in Amsterdam after 12 hours on KLM B777.
Hell in a tube. Only six hour to next flight.
Woohoooooo.

Nothing more than usual. Wife's always up for new adventures and we hate groups and guides.you drove from lima to Machu Pocchu and back? what the f*** is wrong with you?
Flew KLM TRF to Lima, prebooked hotel there and in Ollantaytambo, winged the rest. Had to do that since we also bought tickets to Machu Picchu and the train to there in advance. They will only allow 2500 pax/day.
Driving allowed us to find interesting hotels and see parts of the country totally devoid of tourists, also gave us first hand experience with the flooding and the results thereof.
Europcar checked the Kia with a fine toothed comb and was surprised that there was absolutely nothing to deduct from the deposit after that 2300 km epic journey.
Have to say, and we've been around a bit, that driving in Peru is the worst this far.
Solution? Norwegian flag on car and drive more agressive than the locals, confuses the hell out of them. Also challenge truck and bus drivers, they're not used to it and will back off.
Had a couple of incidents with trucks in our lane coming around blind turns. You have to stay focused. Mobile phones and radio to off.
Great trip, we both totally enjoyed it.

If there's anyone still out there?
Couple of "amusing" episodes from the trip.

Couple of "amusing" episodes from the trip.
- After Europcar failed to pick us up at the airport we found that they're "airport location" was opposite said airport, and that we had to cross an 8-lane highway, and a two lane feederway via a bridge. Not going to happen with two suitcases and other stuff. Hot phone call followed. We were picked up as agreed.
- Car finally released @22:30 hrs, complete with GPS, we made our way direction hotel. Thirty minutes later, GPS died, malfunctioning charger. No map, hotel finally found @24:00 hrs. Steaming phone call to Europcar followed, new GPS duly delivered hotel next morning.
- Check out Huacachina, crazy place.
- They serve Coy, or guinea pig whole, complete with head and toes. Crispy it was, good.
- Like typical tourists we were standing on a street corner in Abancay discussing heading. A motorcycle police officer stopped his bike, parked it and asked if we needed assistance to cross the road. Pissed of wifey no end, "must be because we look old". Nope, because we were white.
- Don't ask for a menu in English from a waiter who can't speak it. He memorised the location of wanted dishes, then went and looked in the Spanish menu. Dishes not located in same sequence. Interesting three course dinner combo. we did not complain.
- Don't laugh at wifey when she returns to bar, where I'm having a beer, with a sprained ankle. Don't take pictures of said ankle and wife's contorted face. Get ice and make sympathetic noises. Got my priorities all wrong on that occasion.
- When returning car, came in from wrong direction, saw Europcar on the other side of 8 plus 2 lanes. Suddenly heading back to Lima, not possible to cross from South to North. Found an opening filled with police officer, did not accept answer no, insisted that my avion was about to leave in 30 mins.
Brave young officer pulled out his whistle and baton, entered Northbound four lanes were traffic was doing around 90 to 100 km/h, blew whistle, waived baton, stopped traffic, waved us across. Thank you, well done!

If any of you guys read Car Magazine you would have seen a picture, a small one, of the dear Kia Rio proudly waving the Norwegian flag while waiting to cross the flooded highway. June issue, page 50. Magnifying glass advisable.
