Re: Preservation from Brian's delete button.

Postby flyboy2548m » Tue Jul 18, 2017 1:47 pm

In an effort to stir crap (at a level 25% as good as Flyboy and ITS), I have razzed Brian, there. If he is in a bitchy mood, he will delete my post and ban me. A couple weeks ago, I made a zinger comment on a photo rejection too...(I note that the rejection appeal infestation in "Aviation Discussion" continues)

Context: Death of an aviation fan resulting from watching jet blast at the fence at St. Maarten.
...lunacy...
Who doesn't love getting close and personal with big powerful things? And folks have clung to the fence for years (yeah, sure, it may cause imperfections in your photos, but to witness such sheer power.)

We watch trains, we chase tornadoes, we go rafting in swift water, we go to car races and get killed by flying tires.

Sure, there is a magical distance behind (and ahead of, for that matter) a jet engine where you might be over powered, but repeating, folks are hanging on to that fence every day...

...especially people who like airplanes (not that that there's all that many folks like that around here).

Edit: By the way, it would be interesting to review the stats of St. Maarten Fence clinging to parachuting. I know over the last 10 years, the total death count from parachuting is a lot higher...now normalized to the number of fence clingers vs. jumpers???...who knows. Still, I can't be quite so harsh on fence clingers when people jump out of perfectly good airplanes.
Not only is that not 25%, I'm not even sure it's 2.5%.

Hey...I'm trying.

I do note how the thread has envolved into a bicker session on whether Brian makes mistakes or not and a bicker session on how Brian defines mistakes with near zero acknowledgement that experiencing a good (though not deadly) level of jet blast might be kind of a cool experience for an aviation fan.

Well, my camera is an 11-year-old point and shoot which doesn't work most of the time, so losing it would Not_be much of a tragedy... and I would be firmly attached to the fence with both hands, Not_fiddling with a camera. I have respect for procedure and regulations.

We do not want a radar for hail detection, we want a hail-proof radar. Maybe with some airbags. Someone should start a thread in an internet forum.

It's those damn cheap crackerbox composite radomes that are the problem! Make 'em out of good old cast iron and there would never be a problem.

Please be careful to not offend those of the Airbus religion.

And, remember, everything has tradeoffs...While the tails and radomes seem to be quick to fail, the dang things (that's the whole AC) do seem to ditch pretty well (even with flawed technique as Gabriel likes to mention) (n=1).

I do have one worry, 737 windows are kind of nasty and you don't really have THAT much range of vision...what if you are on the wrong side of the plane?
Then he can open a door.

That Ford Transit has an ugly livery. I can't wait to see it in its new "Airbus" paintjob. Let's hope it doesn't attract too many pervs or Airbus extremists.

Any tips on places and techniques for van photography?

By the way, I think there's a non PC comment that could be made.
BAN ALL FEMALE PILOTS!

Then again, we (men) do royally screw up quite frequently. Should we (outsiders) demand crews who do not identify themselves as neither male or female, or should we BAN ALL AIRPLANES?

Off topic: can't (easily, at least) manually put the quote's author anymore :-(.

Do you know if:
A) 747 simulators have training zip-ties?
B) BBie is still entitled to zip-tie you now that he has retired?

For the record:

I think that airline pilots forget to fly the plane or pull up relentlessly because they are trying to remember Evan's type-specific checklists, while, at the same time, repeatedly chanting, "I must not use broadly-applicable fundamentals".
Of course, Gabriel remains my hero for having landed a real 737 simulator (in moderate weather, on a not_challenging runway).

Some day, I will know that.

North side is 13-31, South side is 11-29, middle is 12-30. But at ATL North < South...it's all so confusing.

Ban ALL the photographers!
Wow...overload. And then we have to read the guidelines and get all of the database categories right. I wish they didn't do the thumbnail thing. Harder to peruse the failphotos.
