Maybe Per thought this Lirica-200 class ship would have the same kind of automation than the Lirica-236A class and crashed by using perfect ship's wheel-and-rudder helmsmanship.
That said, meteor involvement should Not_be discarded.

I provide the thrust, monkeys on the bridge decide what to do with it.
In this case the monkeys were probably Italians.
Surprised they didn't abandon ship ahead of their pax.
Nuff said.

Per, what exactly is going on in this video - I have no context - but this sort of thing seems unusual. Miscommunication? Equipment failure? Vodka?

Could be anything, propulsion/tech failure, miscommunication with pilot, stupidity or vodka.
Italian officers probably not, the would have abandoned ship before she came to rest.
Shit like this happens, often tech.

The nice barb about Italians I assume relates to that Costa Concordia chap...

I remember hearing about the crash at the time and thinking "Per will not be impressed"
