Yesterday I changed the drive belt on our Whirlpool 6th Sense dryer. Took me all day, strangely satisfying, reminded me of my seafaring days. Fingers to big for small screws, particularly the index finger I tried to saw off.

Re: Major Achievements
The repair shop quoted me almost $1500 to replace the secondary air pump and two check valves on my '99 M-B E320, $1200 alone in parts. I thanked them, bought the parts used on ebay for $160, and installed them myself. I will now spend the $1300 I saved on akkevit and fat women.

How much would you charge to saw off the first 30 feet (or 27 feet, or 40 feet) of that fire-damaged A340 and glue on a new front? The repair shop quoted me almost $1500 to replace the secondary air pump and two check valves on my '99 M-B E320, $1200 alone in parts. What is someone of your caliber doing with a nearly 20-year-old W210? I also wonder why you'd buy stuff like that used, it's not that expensive new...The repair shop quoted me almost $1500 to replace the secondary air pump and two check valves on my '99 M-B E320, $1200 alone in parts. Re: Major Achievements
As alluded to in another thread this been a unusual hot spring and summer combined with hard labour.
This be the result of an old pensioner's work.
Started by putting up a concrete wall, attached some wood, ceiling lined with corrugated steel to keep car clean, now a a 8x4.5 meter carport with a wood shed at the bottom. Internal rainwater catchment system. Then covered the thing in pine wood, set up rails around, and added a shed for garden furniture at the end, also provides lee.
Looking for new projects.

Re: Major Achievements
I buy new parts from them, as well as PelicanParts and THMotorsports. For things like brakes, shocks, and tune up parts, new is the only way to go. But for things that are not considered regular maintenance items - like the air pump and check valves - going with used is the much more economical choice. After all, the rest of my car is used. Why would I want to pay top dollar on new parts that will outlive the rest of the car?Autohausaz has those parts for about $650 new.

Gosh...maybe because the used parts you just put in there are in no better shape than the ones that came out or at least won't be in better shape for very long, so you may have to do the job again and buy the parts again.

Or? They may turn out to be perfectly fine. I am willing to take that gamble. I once bought an SRS module used for $30 that costs $1000 new. It's still working.

Boeing Crushes Rival Airbus In This Key Metric; Q2 Deliveries Rise
Boeing (BA) is burying rival Airbus (EADSY) on aircraft orders this year, and the U.S. aerospace giant's Q2 deliveries rose vs. a year ago on 737 and 787 gains.
On Tuesday, Boeing announced that it booked 460 orders, after cancellations, in the first six months of the year. Airbus only booked 206 net orders.
The company also delivered 194 commercial aircraft in Q2, up from 183 in the year-ago quarter. That increase will help boost Q2 results, as the company receives revenue upon delivery of planes. Quarterly earnings come out July 25.
Deliveries of the 737 narrow-body jet rose to 137 from 123 as output ramps up. Currently, Boeing is producing 47 a month but plans to boost production to 52 later this year and 57 next year. Dreamliner deliveries rose to 38 from 33. But 777 deliveries fell to 13 from 21.
Shares rose 1.5% to 347.16 on the stock market today. Airbus jumped 3.6% to 30.23 on high sales expectations for its newly dubbed A220s. Airbus took a majority stake in Bombardier's C Series jets last year and renamed them Tuesday to fit in its naming system.

Thanks to our friends the Chinese you now have a third option: pay top dollar for new parts that won't outlive anything! Why would I want to pay top dollar on new parts that will outlive the rest of the car?

When I rebuilt my Audi a few years ago, I replaced a 29-year-old differential mount bushing that was in so-so condition with a brand-new one that was made in China. Six months later it failed completely.
Now whenever possibly I use new *quality* OE or equivalent parts. But if the only brand-new choice is a Chinese part, I'll often go with a used parts as its life expectancy is greater.

Re: Major Achievements
You must have bought URO brand. It stands for "U Replace Often". It is always the least expensive for a good reason. URO is the worst reverse-engineered Chinese crap you can buy. Many parts retailers won't even carry it.
When I buy new parts, my guideline is to get the second most expensive one. It is usually the exact same OEM part as the Mercedes-branded part, at half the price.

Re: Major Achievements
I'm pretty sure it wasn't URO since I know they're awful. I don't really remember but I'm about 75% confident it was Meyle - their quality seems to be pretty random.
Whenever possible I also prefer to buy the same manufacturer as the OE part. Unfortunately aftermarket parts support for older Audis isn't as good as it is for Mercedes and BMW so often the only choice for brand-new parts is Chinese.
