Bonanza Crash 1,231,352
Last week, the headline was "Ring Doorbell Camera Captures Plane Crash."
This week it's "4-year old killed when plane hits SUV" AND "Pilots described as old, but highly competent".
I am not_sure if this is the same crash- however, there seem to be plenty of parallels.
The door bell-cam shows an airplane in a 'steep' (45-degree???) bank and 30-degree???? dive, clips the car, spins backwards, and bursts into flames. It doesn't look out of control, but there isn't enough time to really say if that's the case- but the plane is traveling more or less forward.
The weather on the door bell cam looks unremarkable.
The article about the good pilots: shows a 70 YO dude. Wanton, ass-hat speculation is a medical crisis- but supposedly BOTH dudes were pilots...
Of course, it could simply be two old dudes screwing up stall and spin exercises- or just two dudes screwing up stall spin exercises, or, we can wait for the final report.

Re: Bonanza Crash 1,231,352
The location is literally the outside of the airport fence so they weren't doing exercises - it's a problem / failure on departure and attempted turnback.
I'm kinda inured to GA pilots (who accept the risks) getting hurt but fatalities on the ground, especially kids... ...ugh.

Well, I get pretty frustrated when pilots (GA or else) stall/spin/crash/burn/die/kill.I'm kinda inured to GA pilots (who accept the risks) getting hurt but fatalities on the ground, especially kids... ...ugh.
But I agree with you that topping that with kills being killed on the ground, well, as you said, ugh.
That said, lets agree that people on the ground being killed by a GA airplane falling on them is an extremely rare occurrence.

It’s sad that the SUV wasn’t a second or two earlier.

They are. And according to the news reports (for what they are worth) the plane was taking off.
Re: Bonanza Crash 1,231,352
TDS stated and the jetfilms (the plane crashed INBOUND into the airport fence) look very much like a “the 180 you aren’t supposed to do” when the engine quits.https://www.fox13news.com/news/4-year-o ... ighborhoodI am not_sure if this is the same crash

I assume they departed one of the 10 runways. Power loss on takeoff there is unlikely to work out great even if impeccably handled.

Yes, that looks nasty. It will be a narrow street if you are lucky. But don't lose control. (I know, easier said than done)I assume they departed one of the 10 runways. Power loss on takeoff there is unlikely to work out great even if impeccably handled.

Typist magazine (or a YouTube) mentioned developing some black and white procedures by altitude- below this, straight ahead, if you get to this, ~90 degrees of turn, and at [this] altitude do a careful 180...
You practice it (at altitude) and brief for it before departure...and then ‘you’ don’t quite regurgitate it that well when the crap hits the fan...

Re: Bonanza Crash 1,231,352
Depending on the runway length, airplane performance, wind, and other factors, there can be range where you are too high to touch down back on the runway (even with insufficient runway to stop) and too low for a return (which is not a 180 if you are returning to the same strip of asphalt, it is rather something like a 225 + a 45 in the opposite direction, which suddenly adds to 270 degrees, that is a LOT of turning).Typist magazine (or a YouTube) mentioned developing some black and white procedures by altitude- below this, straight ahead, if you get to this, ~90 degrees of turn, and at [this] altitude do a careful 180...

In that case, the procedural black-and-white rule is land straight ahead or within 45 degrees left or right, but that doesn't work very well either when that 1/4-pizza sector is packed with houses, narrow streets, cars, light post, wires, trees and people. It is still the best option: try to find the least nasty spot in that sector and don't lose control. Chances are still bad but they are the least bad.
I did most of my flights from an airport (Don Torcuato, SADD, wiped from the map since then) with a single runway where the departure in one direction put you exactly in that place, and I hated using that runway.
The departure in the other direction lead to an elevated train with bridge over a small river included, but it was a much better prospect.

Ten minutes on how smart Scott Perdue is, barely six minutes on the accident.

My take on his analysis is they broke the no-180 rule and maybe should have crashed ‘straight ahead’ and hit a car or house and did died that way. Not taking off was also an option, since there was a known risk of engine failure.

If you watch Scott's follow-up video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4_BTlLPAyw witness accounts indicate a high likelihood of engine unhappiness. As in, they did a runup and it was running badly, then they decided to take off anyway because apparently functional engines are for pussies.

17 minutes!?!?!?*** Scott's follow-up video ***
I’ll take your much briefer summary and wait for the final report, thank you.
At least in a Gabriel post, you can skip over the excessively detailed parts.

Psst... left- and right-arrow keys in Youtube allow you to skip forward and back.
You do get a certain sense in his videos that he's getting paid by the word, but there is good info in there if you mentally filter out the noise.

He's trying to become the Bonanza version of the late Dick Collins. Makes sense, he's old enough.Psst... left- and right-arrow keys in Youtube allow you to skip forward and back.

Not the same...basic writing rules means the first sentence of a paragraph clues you in...the last sentence, the bottom line...same thing for the last paragraph (or two) it might also recap the key points...kind of old school, but...Psst... left- and right-arrow keys in Youtube allow you to skip forward and back.
Ref: Dick Collins- I always enjoyed the basic, “I flew here and dodged storms and ice, then on the really bad day, parked N-210RC and left the driving to flyboy5248m (-some large number).” Does the dude have any of those kinds of videos?
