So... if the plane is stalling, you're supposed to push forward on the yoke? Who knew?

Mild snarky mode:So... if the plane is stalling, you're supposed to push forward on the yoke?
Well, it’s not THAT simple. About 20 years ago, flyboy thought Gabe and I wanted to go crazy full forward and do some kind of excessive dive…
…and then a dude in a 767 full of Amazon packages did “exactly” that.
Sometimes you can just pull up less.

Re: A relentless pull up:
Not that it really matters but I suppose if you pushed hard enough you could stall the wing in the "opposite direction" with negative AoA? This probably matters more if you're flying inverted...

Re: A relentless pull up:
Exactly. Most of the times when you stall it is because you are already pulling up relentlessly. So pulling up less will make the trick most o the time. (Note: that still involves moving the yoke forward of its present position, but not pushing)Sometimes you can just pull up less.So... if the plane is stalling, you're supposed to push forward on the yoke?
I don't know if many airplanes have enough down-elevator authority to reach the negative stall AoA, but in principle, yes you absolutely can.Not that it really matters but I suppose if you pushed hard enough you could stall the wing in the "opposite direction" with negative AoA

In reality, the Amazon packages wind up in the swamp.

Re: A relentless pull up:
I was answering about the negative-AoA stall. Amazon pushed down relentlessly and achieved a little bit of negative Gs, but nothing close to negative stall.Quote = Ass Hat Aggie:Quote=Theoretical physicist hell-better aeroengeer.Sometimes you can just pull up less.

To your point of pull down less, my answer was "exactly".
