Postby J » Fri Dec 05, 2025 4:13 pm

According to the following article this is one of 3 still active DC 8's - starting its career with Finnair. https://airlinegeeks.com/2025/12/04/fat ... 8-decided/

As of this writing it is currently in flight heading to Jamaica.

Who has the other two?
Contagious engine failures are bad. The industry should stop them.

Don't know how accurate this is but the following two supposedly are:

According to ATDB.aero, as of June 2025, there are only three Douglas DC-8s left in operation.

Two of these aircraft are currently flown by Trans Air Cargo Service. This company is a freight forwarding service that is located in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

I especially like the way they list aircraft specs. On the left is supposed to be metric and on the right - "imperial." Apparently, there is no difference.

Maximum revenue payload 42 000 Kg 42 000 Lbs
Dimensions
Wing span 43,50 m 43,50 ft 7 in
Height 43,50 m 43,50 ft
Cargo door 43,50 m 43,50 ft
Overall length 43,50 m 43,50 ft 2 in
Cabin width (floor level) 43,50 m 43,50 ft
Cabin length 43,50 m 43,50 ft
Typical volume capacity
Main deck 100 m3 100 ft3
Lower compartments (bellies) 40 m3 40 ft3
Bulk 10 m3 10 ft3
Contagious engine failures are bad. The industry should stop them.
