3.75 year status check...

The next election approaches. Not too much different in politics has happened while this thread was idle- just more of the same, until now.

Much ironing that El Presidente has tested positive for Corona...Exact extent of the disease, unknown.

Should he respond mildly, we have a far too similar and sad election to last time when poles said it was over (but wasn’t).

Should he get extremely ill or not survive, that will be ugly.

Not happy with the intelligence of either candidate, but this is who we have chosen...perhaps a mirror is in order in the explanation.

There's nothing to worry about - Coronavirus is a hoax! The "positive tests" are fake news.

If he could learn a few PR tips, he’d be unstoppable. World dominance AND Argentina AND Norway.

How could he get infected? Surely a lapse in his hydroxychloroquine treatment... No problem, a few disinfectant injections and he will be as good as new.

Too late, we now have llamas.

Even if that actually happened, enough people would deny it that it might be hard to tell what actually took place...

Thanks to the miracle of early voting, I did_vote about a week and a half ago... thus avoiding the mayhem that's expected at the polls today. Hopefully not to be followed by 4 more years of mayhem... :?

On a serious note.... If it wasn't for COVID, Trump would be destroying Biden big time.
Nothing to do with how Trump managed COVID or even whether COVID hit under a Republican or Democrat administration.

The fact is that when the economy goes well, more people tend to vote for the incumbent, and when it goes bad more people tends to vote for a change, regardless of whether the reason for the economic condition is the result or even under control of the administration. (most people don't make the cause-effect link, it's just "I am good, I don't want a change / I am not good, I want a change")

If with the higher unemployment rate in decades, more people than who knows when depending on charity for food (and I know this first hand, I regularly volunteer in a food bank), big companies (including mine) firing people, small business in serious problems or going out of business, a steep fall of the GDP, etc.... and the election is this tight... imagine with a solid economy what is what we had before COVID and more than likely would still have if COVID had not hit. Trump (or whomever and whatever party the president won) would have won by a YUUUUUGE margin.

"It's the economy, stupid!" (and that was a Democrat)

(The above is not a political view, I could not have vote for trump regardless of how good the economy was)

So true... and so sad. It's amazing how people can't seem to grasp how little the president can control the economy (in a macro sense). And put their voting emphasis on that factor, ignoring so many others.

It's funny... it seems to have lessened recently but in years past in presidential elections there always used to be an inordinate amount of discussion about gas prices. I said to someone once I wonder how many people think the president has a large knob on his desk marked "GAS PRICES DOWN" / "GAS PRICES UP".

Your need to be serious is disturbing.

But, indeed, The Donald did quite well and in several ways beat the odds.

But I would also say HE ACTIVELY LOST the election. I generally supported his efforts to fight the press, but too often he said stupid $hit to make folks think we needed someone else. Indeed, his Covid RHETORIC very likely hurt him.

Then again, perhaps Biden make better deal support glorious CCCP?

Well there's no doubt the press has it in for Trump... they keep making him look bad by reporting the things he says and does.

Ok, lets have some fun then. Trump invocating the Hindenburg uncertainty principle.

But, indeed, The Donald did quite well and in several ways beat the odds.
Which odds? You mean the polls and surveys? Remember 2016. I for example was SURE that he would EASILY win the reelection, Then COVID came and made me downgrade his chances to only "a good chance of winning".
But I would also say HE ACTIVELY LOST the election.
I agree (although he still has a chance, getting slimmer but still there)
Indeed, his Covid RHETORIC very likely hurt him.
His covid rhetoric? His COVID rhetoric???? Seriously?
For the sake of succinctness, why don't you drop one word there like, I don't know, Covid????
Then again, perhaps Biden make better deal support glorious CCCP?
You know that that's not necessarily a joke, don't you? (just replace CCCP by Rusia)
