Did the boss throw his employee out of the aeroplanie, or did the shoddily built airframe fail at that exact moment by pure coincidence?BoeingJoke.jpg

We, more or less. We engineers also want to keep cost down, productivity up, and development time short, as much as possible.Yes.
While you guys don’t know everything, you have different priorities than MBAs and Marketers.
I think that the difference is in what "possible" means for us and then.
We can see costs beyond hard costs. We understand that having to re-do design and certification delay development, that having to re-work production negatively impacts productivity, and that groundings and accidents are costly.
As the saying goes, if you think that safety is expensive, try having an accident.

I blame public relations
No linky, but this AM I saw a horrible click bait piece: Apparently a passenger saw something amiss on an A-330s wing, and the flight was cancelled. The article went on to be a mish mash review of everything, including windows and doors.
My key point is they say “wing bolts were missing”. (I think it might have been a sheet metal rivet).
Makes me think that some Boeing loving weenie was trying to up the game- yeah, it sucks for a door to blow off, but sucks worse if it’s the wing.
Someone needs to point out how we are aware of redundancies of doors and windows and wings.

Expanded and INDEED.Someone needs to point out how we are aware of redundancies of doors and windows and wings and horizontal stabilizers and landing gear and pilots but, inexplicably, Not_vertical stabilizers nor fuselages.

A Jetphoto
Ad from WSJ with several angles:
Pilots afraid to report missing bolts.
Profit first, safety second, greedy management.
I think they blew it- I certainly DO hope to see panels OF the plane if I look out the window.
A nice artsy Jetphoto.
I will double post it there after I formulate HOW to post it.
Maybe I will put it on the door thread with a comment in blue font where I claim it was rejected and that the photo screeners are pompous weiners? Suggestions?

Regarding Verbie's new entry on "things he hates"...
...and double posting, much to Flyboyie's joy:
https://www.reuters.com/business/aerosp ... 024-02-05/New quality glitch to delay some Boeing 737 MAX deliveries
Feb 4 (Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N), opens new tab said on Sunday it will have to do more work on about 50 undelivered 737 MAX airplanes, potentially delaying some near-term deliveries, after its supplier Spirit AeroSystems (SPR.N), opens new tab discovered two mis-drilled holes on some fuselages.
Boeing confirmed the findings in response to a Reuters query after industry sources said an "edge margin", or spacing problem, had been found in holes drilled on a window frame on some jets.
Forget flying panels, from that picture I gather that a turbinie with loose nuts flew off mid-air during a flight and embedded itself on the side of the fuselageI will double post it there after I formulate HOW to post it.

They put 9 toidies and 8 fail... And they expect us to feel safe with only 2 turbines, wings, pilots?!

I asked my AI friend for a picture of "The crap hitting the turbofan." but, once again, it wanted something "more descriptive"

Ummm, tell it to put the Flyover maroon hand egg Cajeros Automaticos mascot through an airplane with the perfect number of engines.I asked my AI friend for a picture of "The crap hitting the turbofan." but, once again, it wanted something "more descriptive"

My understanding is that the Ford Trimotor had a rather reliable system.
Yet again, Gabriel and his colleagues have to over aeroengineer it to where the poor operator sits helplessly while BMCAS disables the controls.

We're doomed, man!
I, having perhaps more interest in computeries (the industry that will enslave us all) than aeroplanies (the industry that will did died us all), was reminded of how bad Intel and, particularly, AMD sucked until they returned to the hands of engineers. I assume that, when enough money is lost (and enough people has retired to private islands), they figure they need an engineer to make money again. Of course, there's a high probability that, after some time, they put someone to try to increase profit at all costs again and the cycle repeating.Evan has spoken.
