We should cut Boeing some slack. It is understandable for an inexperienced manufacturer to commit a couple of small errors on a new, revolutionary, clean-sheet design.

Indeed on giving Verbie some slack: Mrs. 3BS car is being recalled as the front bumper assembly may fall off.

Okay I'm confused.

I was taught that if something moves and it shouldn't, use duct tape. And if something's supposed to move and won't, use WD-40. Where does this fit in?

Mee too, but thanks to them interwebz I have discovered other options. Example: if a passenger moves you use zip-ties.

On Jan 9th 2024 Alaska Airlines reported a number of their B39M aircraft showed loose parts during the inspections following the door plug separation, too.
Maybe Boeing should increase the frequency and intensity of Verbie and PPie's physical punishments; they appear to be very distracted...

A conservative talk-radio dude was flaming Alaska today, saying 1) The aircraft had had numerous pressure warnings and 2) Alaska had decided to not_operate that aircraft over water.

I find #2 a bit disturbing- “yeah, if we suck some people out, there’s better odds of finding them by on the land..,”

I don't know if you guys realized. This is a 737-900ER (sorry 3WE, the specificity is needed in this case).
And it features the exact same plug option than the Alaska 737-MAX-9 of the blown plug accident.
Assembled in the same Spirit facility.
And Alaska, United and Delta operate about 10 times more of the 737-900ER with the plug than of the 737-MAX-9 of the plug.
And the FAA grounded and mandated inspections on the MAX-9.
But it did neither for the 900ER.

I have no objection to type specificity.

The 172M has 40 degrees of flaps and a different starting procedure than the 172P…along with its 30 degrees of flaps.

But to Evan, that nullifies stuff like FTPAP, P+P=P, and if you let ANY autopilot fly the plane watch it, especially during landings, go arounds, or if you are not sure how to fly at 6000 feet in VFR.

On a related note, Amtrak canceled the Trans Flyover Express on Monday and Tuesday due to a mundane snowstorm. I guess the localizer wasn’t working on their new Siemens locomotives…or doors were blowing out [shoulder shrug emoji]?

Pressurization control fails, gets MEL'd, now you're not ETOPS-eligible. Might be connected somehow but it's hard to see how.

Finally! Short of "mandating" it, the FAA issued an SAFO (Safety Alert For Operators) recommending that "operators perform key portions of the Boeing 737-900ER Fuselage Plug Assembly Maintenance Planning Document (MPD) Inspection Tasks, related to the 4 locations where a bolt/nut/pin installation is used to secure the door to the airframe, as soon as possible".

And they link this recommendation with AD for the 737-MAX9 to inspect the mid-cabin door plugs in the wake of the Alaska accident since, according to the SAFO, "the Boeing 737-900ER mid-exit door plugs have an identical door plug design to the 737-9 MAX", and also "some operators have conducted inspections on the 737-900ER mid-exit door plugs and have noted findings with bolts".

"...findings with bolts."

Wow, could they be any less specific? "We inspected our aeroplanies and found some issues with some things".

Those people know that "having a screw loose" is a figure of speech, and you're not actually supposed to do that on airplanes... right?

While you guys don’t know everything, you have different priorities than MBAs and Marketers.
