Indeed.
While the Anglais word ham generally refers to a smoked and cured pork product, we also use it as a description of “attention whore”.
Young Ms 3BS is visiting South America and encountered a perro that was most friendly and affectionate, and was “hamming it up” with the attention (not_unusual).ham

I seem to remember that, ~20-25 years ago, some young people used "¡Jamóoon!" as a reply with a similar meaning to "Cool!". I heard it few times and from few people, so it appears to Not_have been a very succesful expression. I imagine it's a derivative of "jamón del medio" (ham of the middle?), a relatively common phrase back then meaning something is very good/excellent/the best (I.e.: "Los aviones de buen metal estadounidense son jamón del medio"), but it has been a lot of years since the last time I heard it.
