Re: Electric Aeroplanies

100% of 50% of the fuel they used was sustainable. Edit: Slightly less cynically, I think this is an example of what someone once called "marketing weasel words". The sentence reads like in the completion of the flight, 100% of the fuel used was sustainable. But if you read it differently,...

Re: The demise of AD.info?

I used to be active on a Saab (car) forum where from time to time they'd post surveys, and after a while the forum owner would post the results. One time the survey question was "Does your car have annoying squeaks and rattles?" After a while the owner posted the results: "About 60% said yes - the o...

Re: 787 inflight structural breakup in 3....2....1....

Hmm... I had a windsurfer once that wasn't cheap, but was composite, made in France, and delaminated "in flight". Coincidence? Maybe. :?

Helos and altitude

So... this is something I've been curious about for a long time, but I was reminded of it by this news item: https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-hampshire-59451549 In aviation, there's a saying that "altitude is your friend", no? I'd think that would be even more true with helicopters as setting up ...

Re: Top Gun Maverick

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNtJ4HdMavo At about 2:30 in this trailer, there's a segment you might call MAKING Top Gun... They claim "It's a love letter to Aviation" and also brag about the lengths they are taking to have good jetphotos . Hmm - it looks like the greatest lengths being gone to (...

I've got a soft spot for anything aviation, but pix of last-generation prop airliners and first-gen airliners sharing the same space are extra special.

Re: Good landing 10-19-2021

Yeah I saw that video last night. Did you see the part where he points out that based on burn marks in the grass, apparently only one engine was making power? The burn pattern would also support the thinking that the reverser(s) was not deployed, at least at the moment the plane came to rest.

Re: Good landing 10-19-2021

What the hell paint scheme is that?
It's a distinctive set of colors and patterns typically used to denote the owner of an aircraft, but that's not important right now.

Heh... it's been so long since I saw that movie I hardly remember anything about it! Except that even at the time, I'm not sure I really "got it". :?
