Re: Here in MA we do flying differently
Oh they probably were, one way or another! The tiny bit of ironing here is that when I last visited Martha's Vineyard years ago I found out about that air tour outfit and almost rode in possibly that exact plane! But unfortunately our plans went in a different direction and I haven't been back since.

Re: Deja hear
Once upon a time, there was also was a 9-channel audio system and United airlines devoted one to the airplane’s communication radio, and you could listen to your crew. ... it has since been repurposed to allow pax to watch cat videos in surround sound. ...to distract them from the fact they've had ...

Re: Air India 787 down
So to summarize what we've learned so far: It appears both engines shut down at (about) exactly the same moment. The likelihood of both engines shutting down unintentionally at exactly the same moment is approximately zero. The likelihood of both engines being shut down intentionally at exactly the ...

Re: Air India 787 down
I can't remember which but one Internet pontificator thinks it's a single-engine failure (cause unknown but probably squids) and the pilots shut down the good engine. A "pro" of that theory: it's happened before, a bunch of times. To me the biggest con: it means one engine would have lost ...

Yeah, in general I agree.
I'm just thinking back to when we tried to "fix" Afghanistan and how that worked out. Oh, and when we tried to "fix" Iran, and how that worked out.

Re: War: 6/2025
If you want to have a red-blue flame war, did Eric’s people, who were formerly in the Oval Office do much to enable Iran? Well our next-to-last guy helped get a treaty in place to deal with such things: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Comprehensive_Plan_of_Action ...and Krasnov withdrew from it...

Re: War: 6/2025
Setting the good/bad discussion (on which I'm very much on the fence) aside for a moment... * Do we think the attack was successful? * 37 hours non-stop with only two crew ? People on other aviation fora seem to think this is fine because the B-2 is "highly automated". I dunno... a 787 is ...
