Quote=Gabriel and Eric: Blah blah blah marketing bullshit blah blah blah… I found it painful to read, and indeed, laden with bull crap. Pull up to go up.

Push over to go down.

If you fear falling, pull up relentlessly.

If you fear stalling, push over relentlessly.

When in doubt, mess with obscure autopilot modes.

Flyover, earlier this century.

A short 20 years ago. Several shots of mild ramp congestion…in one shot, there’s 3 takeoffs made within roughly a minute. 727s, 757s, DC-9-many types, ERJs, ATRs, Jetstream 31s and 41s. “ We really could use a third runway.” I don’t remember the airline, but the initials were TWA. I miss it. https:/...

The latest from There:

Quote= Evan:

Most plane crashes—almost all of them—are the result of pilot error arising from poor training, poor discipline and risk-prone culture.
I certainly hope ATLCrew notes this!

Re: Helos and altitude

I ass-ume it’s a reasonable risk. They have a hell of a lot more choices for their unintended landings. The one time I rode with a dude, he seemed more interested in lateral speed than altitude- although for grins, he did a hard-but-measured pull-up/vertical takeoff, saying that air ambulances might...

Re: UA 727 Simulation and Check Ride

That was awesome! A little sad at the end where faster aeroplanies were predicted for the future. Instead, we have slower airplanes and buggy 737s. 747s fading, A-380s fading, 727s, DC-9s, 3-hole jumbos all history. Even 777s are showing their age, while the scream liner deals with slow production....

Happy Thanksgiving from WKRP

It’s customary to reference this at this time of year.

I think we[no italics] know the story, video, aeroengineering, lack of donkey involvement, and the need for bannings well enough that I won’t link to a video.

Happy Thanksgiving from Flyover, America!

Re: Shocking video

Remember once the local airflow achieved anything more than Mach 1, there is no way to slow it down smoothly, it can only slow down with a shock wave. No, I don’t remember… I DO remember chemistry (aggies take a lot of Chem). Air is a bunch of molecules, widely spaced and moving at a great variety ...

Re: Shocking video

Aeroengineers: Enough silliness. What exactly is that? I hesitate to call it a shock wave as I can’t imagine a imagine a modern airliner getting really getting to magic speeds…close, sure, but we made modern airplanes a little bit slower for fuel efficiency. Conversely, I get the “trans sonic”...

So some ass-umption that the pilots did things ok…Evanie hinting that there’s no practical inspection of stabilizer freedom (and no real way to do it on a preflight walk-around.

And snarcasm + truth, the pilots seemed pretty OK in aborting at V-3BS.

I wish I had clearer memories of the early 1960s…

There was a pretty good variety of aeroplanies and power plants at Flyover National Airport.

Yes, the take off was a contributing factor.

No, we should not fire Boeing management.

I was initially reluctant to join, but given that it’s historic liveries- it might be cool?
