Don't worry. If they followed all the procedures, run all the memory items and QRH checklists, and pronounced every relevant acronym, Evan is going to be fine. Can't wait for Evanie's opinion!

Yeah, a bit emotional...
But I don't like the idea of intentionally planning your flight to include strong and abundant distractions from your PIC duties.

Re: Ural A320 forced landing at Omsk
Given the reporting of the landing gear creating trenches, it sure seems like trying to take off from the same "runway" isn't the greatest idea. But... it's now late September, and if the ground were frozen... I think the New Orleans incident included waiting for dry ground… Maybe to tow ...

Re: F.A.O.: Per; Not_Aviation
The flaps also sag when some hydraulic system is off and “suck up” when it comes on. Never heard of that. Why would that be? Hydraulic pressure holds them up; when it's off, gravity takes charge. This comes up from time to time with post-accident photos, when people try to reason about the flap pos...

Understatement, taking into consideration that the speakist is an F-15, F/A-18, Citation XL and major airline pilot.and yes, I did notice the speakist blathering about turning downwind, and I agree that's a bad thing in a speakist,

Re: Here we go again
Barring any mechanical issue, that certainly sounds to me like too much weight in the rear. Not convinced. The AFT CG limit is based on handling characteristics (static and dynamic longitudinal stability, directional control, spin recovery, etc...). You would need to be WAY too much aft of the aft ...

Re: Here we go again
(snip) Directional control was eventually lost. But the pilot talks about being unable to control the plane in any way, even in pitch, which I find hard to believe. (snip) He just tried hard (to do what?) but the plane didn't respond. If that was true, the plane either had a mechanical problem or s...

Re: Here we go again
Can someone please explain the causal relationship between the failure to maintain directional control and the wing exceeding its critical AoA? I will not ask about the causal relationship between the failure to maintain directional control and the loss of control. I can think of a couple of ways t...

The kind of things that WE (capital WE, no italics, and specifically not_Evan) critiqued of the AF guys, remember? 36,000 feet versus 36,000 millimeters (see footnote)… 5 minutes vs 5 seconds… And I’m not sure Captain Beaver truly had the side stick full back… The mechanism may be comparable, but n...

OH SHIT!!!!!!!!!! AT THE RUNWAY WITH FLAPS UP!!!!!!!!!! What? No. But... First frame, flaps are a bit extended. Few frames later, flaps are retracted. WTF? I did virtually freaked out at this point. But they were re-extended while still in the taxiway, before entering the runway. Dummy VNav-5? Any ...

You should either be proficient enough so as it is not more difficult there, or you should not be there in the first place. Evan, while that is ideal, you need to be slightly less absolute...humans don't work that way in large numbers. /Friendly razz ;) I know, understand and agree. But if you scre...

Re: Here we go again
Now, it appears that the A/C doesn't have adequate roll authority at low speed. So one possibility is that it rolled left and the pilot couldn't roll back, and then in a misguided attempt to maintain coordinated flight instead of staying upright, applied left rudder, resulting in a left turn, incre...
